By Emmy McKirgan When I was asked to write about World Health Day I thought, sure, no problem. I mean, we all try to be healthier: eat better, exercise and get proper sleep. I soon found out this wasn't quite what World Health Day is all about. So perhaps you too have a skewed view… Continue reading Building a Fairer, Healthier World

Dear Coronavirus Deniers:
Welcome to the New World Order, folks. In my lifetime, almost a quarter of a century, thank you very much, I don't think I've seen anything afffect the entire world for the worst like this. Not even the rise of the Facebook or Google engines. The only thing I could think to compare it to… Continue reading Dear Coronavirus Deniers:
World Kindness Day: “Be the light you wish to see in the world”
When I wondered what to write about for World Kindness Day, an annual celebration of kindness held every November 13th, something came to mind which I bore witness to, years ago on the streets of downtown Toronto. I was standing outside a fast food restaurant, waiting for a friend to come out and witnessed something… Continue reading World Kindness Day: “Be the light you wish to see in the world”
Why Do Good Things Happen?
In senior year, I was working on a teen dystopian novel called "Rubble" that included the characters discussing Biblical matters. I wish I could finish that book, but I wrote it during physics, chemistry, and biology classes, and there's no way I could remember all the weird sciency stuff I was planning on putting in it. I do think it's interesting how I wrote about a lockdown, and people not wanting to listen to the government to keep them safe. Hmm...Pandemic predicted? Anyway. Hope you enjoy! Comment below if you might want to read more of this incomplete work.
What will heaven be like? – The Good Place Spoiler Alert
I think that until we really realize what life is like without God, this almost literally Godforsaken earth we've advocated for since the beginning of time, it would be impossible for us to truly understand that an eternity of perfect communion with God and each other is the only antidote to this aching pain we have deep within us. Once we get to heaven and our sinful, selfish blinders are removed, I don't think we'd have eternity any other way.

On Profit and Poverty
“The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.”Proverbs 21:5 NIV Well, isn’t this quote a gem. I should actually frame this one for my wall in my imaginary office. I think I might be the queen of haste. A lot of the times I don’t care if something… Continue reading On Profit and Poverty
Keys to the Point of No Return
What kind of a future is pop culture entertainment and advertising media hacking out for us right now? Can there even be a future for a humanity that strives to be so shallow? (Sultana Usafali). The result of lies is more lies, and ultimately reality is the bowling ball that knocks deceptions over like pins. Those who were clinging to the pins and making them the center of their world go down too. Lies and liars are swept away. In my opinion, media effects on self-image today are the result of a long-tended, carefully perfected brainwashing ploy that in the end will doom the world.

Do not boast!
http://www.bible.com/bible/111/eph.2.8.niv My prayer for today is that we can give honour and praise to God when we are tempted to boast. I definitely get caught up in my own illusions of grandeur and completely forget who actually allows me to have this life. You've got this, heroes!
