Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing.
That sounds noble. But the hard part is doing it! How do you not worry? How do you not spread yourself too thin?

As human beings, we tend to be tossed to and fro by the seas of life. We have so many competing lists and choices that often, we are left frazzled and despondent.

When life’s challenges come at you – what do you do? What is your instinct? Do you want to curl up into a ball and shut the world out? I know I often do. Do you want to run away and hope the problems go away? Yup, I’m guilty.

And yet here in the scripture is God’s wisdom – “Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life.”

So how do we make it through the trials, hard times, and things that feel like they will rip your heart apart? We pray – throughout the day. It’s continuous – sometimes all we can get out is a groan or a please help. “I can’t do this, God.” But that is enough.

And He will answer. Often, he will send His very presence in our struggle. Sometimes the answer comes through other people and their help. Don’t discount the support – God can use anyone and anything to help you.

A brilliant person recently challenged me, ” If you pray, don’t you also have to do some action?” At first, I didn’t understand – then he explained that sometimes God gives you an answer but asks you to do something – to obey to fulfill the answer – and if we don’t do it, we are telling God, “No, I don’t like that answer. Or I don’t want to have to do my part to fix things.”

One last suggestion is to ask others to pray for you and with you about your struggle. Put aside the fear of what others will think or say. Don’t let pride stand in the way of receiving help. When I have been at my weakest and unable to pray, feeling defeated and heartbroken – others have come alongside and prayed. And have helped me not only sustain but exponentially expand my faith and the knowledge of sensing the presence of God in my situation.
