Storytelling is an ancient practice used so knowledge can be handed down from one family to another. It is a remarkable way for families and friends to pass on long-told tales, histories, and family traditions. Not only can storytelling be educational, but entertaining as well.

Most people would agree that many of the world’s best stories have come from real-life experiences. The movies with the tagline “Based on a True Story” seem to have more punch than pure fiction. When you consider how memorable storytelling can be, it is only suitable that we have a day to pay honor to this form of art.

So what will you do to honor this day? Will you go to visit your grandparents and hear their stories of long ago? Will you look up a chronicle you’ve always wanted to learn about? Or will you start the art of storytelling and sit your kids down to hear about your exploits as a youth?

However you share in storytelling – may it bring refreshment, joy, and a piece of new knowledge about the unknown. May it draw your family near and preserve a part of your heritage that otherwise may be forgotten.
