By Emmy McKirgan

The beginning of the verse is, “So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up..”

This takes the onus off of us. Christ is the one giving, doing, and equipping. He equips each of us for service. Right now, in the here and now, we are still trained by God. He hasn’t stopped manifesting himself in others. If you continue to read, you see that he qualifies us – not so that we can get the most toys, the biggest house, or the most assets like in monopoly. (Inherently, there is nothing wrong with having things – but that is not our goal.)

He gives us talents, gifts, ideas, and energy to fulfill the things we need to do, but it is not for ourselves but rather for the good of others. Yes, it starts from the top up and then spreads out. But we each have people we are responsible for – whether that is your employees, your children, or anyone else you come in contact with. God will equip you to deal with whatever comes your way. Read your bible, think on his word – meditate on it; there are answers to be had. You have to look for them. Ask God for wisdom. He will equip you to do what he calls you into!
