Fear Not

by Jennifer Copeland

I love hopeful verses. This one is chock-full of words that are meant to give hope. Fear not. Good tidings. Great joy. All people. A Saviour. I don’t know about you, but I think just the sound of those can lift your spirits.

Fear not

This year has been a tough one. Every time you glance at the news online, turn on your tv or pick up a newspaper, the headlines are not encouraging. It seems like we’re all struggling to find a glimmer of light in the darkness. You might feel as though all you get is more bad news, more bills you can’t pay, more health problems you can’t fix, more mountains you can’t climb.

Good tidings of great joy

The angel spoke these words a very long time ago, long before there was a covid-19 pandemic, but the world was just as much in need of hope then as it was now. Even though the angel was addressing the shepherds, it was clear that these good tidings were for ALL people. A Saviour had come not just for those in a certain tax bracket, from a certain country, or within a specific religion. No exceptions.

A Saviour which is Christ the Lord

Our hope is actually a person. A Saviour, who was born in a manger because the inn didn’t have room for Mary, Joseph, and the little baby. Christmas is coming, and although it’s the time of year for family, gifts, and great food, there will be those who have none or only some of those. If you’ve been blessed to enjoy those things, do so. Either way, just remember the reason that hope exists in our world. Even in 2020.
