This verse seems like a magic incantation that at any moment a genie will pop up to grant you a wish. How many times have you asked God for something and not received it? How often have you looked for something and not found it? What about knocking on a door that remains closed?
We look deeper into this and see what God is telling us to do: PRAY!
Prayer is our way into the Father’s Throne room! The second part of the scripture talks about seeking and finding – if you lost a precious ring you would search high and low to find it. You wouldn’t just tell your friend “Hey, I lost my ring, isn’t that terrible? “. On the contrary, you would tear apart your home to find it. So keep praying – keep asking! Don’t give up.

As we continue reading we see that God is comparing Himself to us as parents. We would do everything in our power to give them all they ask for. As a parent, I can relate to this. I want to make things easier for my children and give them those things I didn’t have. I do expect a sort of humble attitude or willingness to help around the house. If they are behaving mischievously and are demanding, I would be less inclined to give it to them. So let’s be mindful of how we come to God when we pray. Let’s be expectant but not demanding: let’s ask our Father for what we need without airs or pretense. Let’s be authentic! He wants to bless us beyond our imagination!
